The Women and Gender Studies Section (WGSS) of ACRL will host its discussion forum, Social Justice at the Intersection of the Arts and Librarianship, co-sponsored with the Theatre Library Association (TLA) on Monday June 25 at 8:30-10:00 a.m. in Morial Convention Center, room 298.
The section’s awards ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will honor the WGSS Award for Career Achievement in Women and Gender Studies Librarianship winner Diedre Conkling and the WGSS Award for Significant Achievement in Women & Gender Studies Librarianship winners Shirley Lew and Baharak Yousefi.
Nina Clements will moderate the panel presentation, which will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Michelle Ashley Gohr is a First Year Experience Librarian with Arizona State University where she teaches critical information literacy to first year students and provides research assistance to students and faculty in women and gender studies, social justice and human rights, and other subject areas. Her research primarily focuses on radical librarianship and decolonization of knowledge systems. Her talk is titled “Radical librarianship and the art of knowledge sharing.”
Treshani Perera is the Music and Fine Arts Cataloging Librarian at the University of Kentucky (UK) Lucille Little Fine Arts Library, and has been with UK Libraries since January 2018. Treshani is responsible for cataloging all fine arts materials, and is passionate about increasing discovery and access to performing and fine arts resources in library catalogs beyond the use of subject headings. In her current position, she strives to increase subject and keyword access to library resources highlighting diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Her work and research aligns with critical cataloging, bringing elements of critical librarianship into everyday cataloging. Her presentation is titled “Recognizing Labor, Improving Keyword Access, and Enhancing Discoverability of Arts Resources in Library Catalogs.”
Jennifer Elder is the subject librarian for Journalism, Psychology, and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at Emory University in Atlanta. Jennifer is co-curating a fall 2018 exhibit with Elizabeth Shoemaker of Emory Libraries’ artists’ books authored by women. Her talk is titled “Collecting Artists’ Books Authored by Women.”
Katherine Litwin is the Library Director at the Poetry Foundation, where she oversees library collections and programing, and curates many gallery exhibitions. She is also an actor and director who has worked in Chicago’s storefront theatre community for many years. Her presentation is titled “Three Gallery Exhibitions at the Poetry Foundation.”
